Our water trail is divided into six main reaches, each showcasing a variety of stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and historical landmarks. As you navigate these sections, you’ll encounter different conditions and challenges that cater to paddlers of varying skill levels. With designated access points available every hour and a half to two hours along the river, you can choose your route based on your abilities and preferences, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

Recognized by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a navigable “non-meandered” stream, the Cedar River is state-owned, while the land adjacent to the river remains privately owned. This means that while you are welcome to paddle, float, and wade in the water, we kindly ask you to respect private property. Camping on sandbars and trespassing is not permitted, so please be mindful of landowners’ rights and adhere to the marked access sites and public areas on the map.
