Try Feather Art!\n\nThis creative alternative to a taxidermy mount showcases the natural beauty of game birds in an artful way. In this class\, we’ll use feathers from ducks\, pheasants\, turkeys\, and more to create a one-of-a-kind feather art picture frame. You’ll learn how to prepare feathers\, which adhesives work best\, plus tips and tricks for continuing to create feather art at home.\n\nHave feathers of your own you’d like to use? Bring them along! If they’re fresh and still attached to the skin\, hand-wash them with a mild detergent (such as Dawn dish soap)\, then dry them with a hair dryer. For loose feathers\, washing and drying them in a fine-mesh produce bag works well.\n\nThis class is limited to 25 and instruction is geared towards ages 14+.\n\nPlease register online at www.mycountyparks.com/County/Mitchell under the events tab. $30/registration for materials.

Owen Nature Center\n\n\nPre-Registration Required\n\n\n$25\n\n\n\nGet a Head Start on the Holiday Season!\nDuring this workshop\, you will be provided with everything you need to make a unique foraged greens wreath or “teardrop” door swag! You don’t need to be craftyor have any experience to make your own holiday décor – just come and have fun!\n\nClass begins at 1 PM at the Milton R. Owen Nature Center with a short discussion on winter tree identification and sustainable foraging for wild décor. Next\, we’ll provide instructions and materials needed to create your one-of-a-kind natural wreath/swag.\n\nYou will be supplied with a 14 inch wire wreath form or grapevine swag base\, an abundance of different sustainably foraged evergreens and other natural materials\, florists wire\, pruning shears\, and ribbon. Hot cocoa and warm apple cider will also be provided.\n\nAll essential supplies are included with your registration\, but feel free to bring any special items (bells\, ornaments\, antlers\, ribbon\, etc.) to add a personal touch to your wreath/swag and make it uniquely yours. We are using natural/raw materials and therefore some of them may be quite prickly or have sap on them. Some individuals may find it helpful to bring their own gardening gloves to protect their hands as these are not provided for the class. You may also want to bring your own pruning shears and/or wire cutters if you have them.\n\nPreregistration is required due to limited space in the workshop.\n\nThere are only 20 spots available so get registered right away! Registration is $25 and includes instructions\, a 14” wreath/swag base\, evergreens and other natural materials\, ribbon\, and floral wire.\n\nPlease register online at www.mycountyparks.com/County/Mitchell under the events tab. $30/registration for materials.
